On Monday October 1, 2018 the Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship announced that Ricafrica will be 1 of 5 finalists to compete in the 5th Annual South Side Pitch competition. South Side Pitch is a celebration of innovation happening south of Chicago’s skyline.
“We are very excited and honored to make it this far in the competition,” says Kimberley Mbayiwa, the founder of Ricafrica. “Thanks to the University of Chicago’s Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation iCorps program, we have been able to conduct research and experiments to help us get Ricafrica off the ground. Winning the South Side Pitch will help us to take Ricafrica to the next level”.

South Side Pitch is hosted by the Institute for Justice Clinic on Entrepreneurship at the University of Chicago Law School in partnership with the Polsky Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the University of Chicago Office of Business Diversity, the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement and the South East Chicago Commission. The South Side Pitch began in 2014 to support some of Chicago South Side’s most innovative, new businesses. Previous first place winners include Kazoom Kids Books, Excuse Me Officer, Go Dutch Today and LegacyComplete.
The 5th Annual South Side Pitch will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Polsky Exchange North: 1452 East 53rd Street – 2nd Floor. In addition to Ricafrica, 2018 finalists include The Bougie Melon, Kozy, Liv Labs and the Real Black Card.
